Kallithea in southeast Rhodes |
Kallithea is not a village, nor is it a tourist resort, it is an area. In the tour operators companies descriptions of their hotels in the area, they always write that they are located in Kallithea, then it is easy to get the impression that it is a village, or a tourist resort, but it is not. The area of Kallithea starts roughly where Rhodes town ends and
continues all the way down to where Faliraki begins. A few kilometres
south of the Sunwing Kallithea Hotel is what can be called the centre
of Kallithea. There are all the facilities you can think of, such as restaurants,
tavernas, bars, shops and car and moped rental companies.

Amira Hotel in Kallithea is located just south of Rhodes town.
For me, Kallithea starts roughly where the Amira Hotel is located. Perhaps mostly because it is the only hotel I have stayed at in the area. I ended up there by chance when travelling on an unspecified trip to Rhodes from Sweden. When I read about the hotel, most people who stayed there were negative, but I actually enjoyed it and I thought it was a good base. I might add that it was a business trip. The only negative I have to say is that the traffic outside the hotel was terrible. But somehow it was not heard in the room. The closest beach from Amira Hotel is Agia Marina beach, where there is a restaurant called Santa Marina, which is the English name for Agia Marina.
The busy road between Rhodes Town and Lindos runs outside the Amira Hotel.
The nearest beach from Amira Hotel is the relatively unknown sandy beach Agia Marina. |
Kallithea is for the vast majority synonymous with Sunwing Kallithea beach, and other large hotels in the area. Many people see Kallithea Springs beach in front of them when they think of Kallithea. But there are also other beaches that may not be so well known, such as Kokkina, Oasis, Tassos and Nikolas beaches. Read about all these beaches via the links below.
