Travel to Samos in Greece

Samos has very good connections with the outside world: direct flights from many countries, domestic flights from, among others, Athens and Rhodes as well as excellent ferry connections with Piraeus (Athens) and many of the neighbouring islands.

BY TOUR OPERATORS

You can fly to Samos with many tour operators. The airport is located at Potokaki beach, about 4 kilometre from Pythagorion. The approach usually takes place from the mountains and can - if it's very windy - be a bit scary. At least I, who am a little afraid of flying, think so.

BY INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS

The easiest is, of course, to buy a flight seat to Samos with one of the tour tour operators. Another - not as good - option is to fly to Kos, and go by ferry from there. You can also fly to Athens and go on from there by boat or domestic flight. There is no airport bus, but plenty of taxis. Taxi to Pythagorion costs around €10.

No planes take off or land at Samos airport in the evening and at night. So you are not disturbed by the sound.

The plan is heard, of course, but there are no take-offs or landings in the evening or at night.

BY DOMESTIC FLIGHTS

Samos has a daily flight connection with Athens. In addition, there are several departures a week to, among others, Crete, Lesvos, Rhodes and Thessaloniki.

BY FERRY

Exceptionally good ferry connections with Agathonissi, Patmos, Lipsi, Leros, Fourni, Ikaria, Kos, Kalymnos, and Piraeus. And there are also decent boat connections with Chios and Lesvos.

There are three ports on Samos: Karlovassi, Pythagorion and Samos Town. The port of Pythagorion is served by catamarans and the small car ferry Nisos Kalymnos. Large ferries leave from Karlovassi and Samos town. Note that Samos town is almost always referred to as Vathy in the boat timetables.
