The village of Lindos in Rhodes |
Lindos is Rhodes most visited tourist resort, and there are very few people who leave Rhodes without visiting Lindos. At least I don't. It is not only the village of Lindos that attracts, the beaches Agios Pavlos beach, Lindos beach, Pallas beach and the Acropolis also attract people. I can warmly recommend you to go to Lindos and spend a day here. The municipality of Lindos has approximately 4,500 inhabitants, while the village of Lindos has approximately 1,100 inhabitants.

From Rhodes town, it is approximately 45 kilometres to Lindos. Just before you reach the village, there is a viewpoint where EVERYONE stops to photograph the village, the acropolis and the beach. Preferably with yourself in the foreground, it actually looks pretty fun. The view is really nice so it's no wonder that everyone stops along the way.

Above Lindos, the excursion buses park, and there are many of them, and along the way down there is a trainload of tourists. If you come with your own car, or with a moto bike, you can park below the village on the way down to the beach. Don't try to park by the big tree where the village starts because you'll have a cop on your neck within 10 seconds. Exhausted tourists sit under the tree, recovering from the tour of the village. If you want to avoid meeting bus times and problems with finding a parking space, you can take an excursion boat to Lindos.

Among the first things you encounter is a stable with donkeys.

Trying to describe Lindos in a fair way is difficult. There are an incredible amount of people, just everywhere. It's even so bad that you sometimes have to queue to get into the village. Once you're in the village, you soon notice that most of it is about shopping, because if there's one thing that's not missing, it's shops, which sell everything from heaven to earth. Much like in the old town of Rhodes, in other words. To get a more nuanced picture of this beautiful village, you should go here early in the morning or late in the evening.

If you have the privilege of visiting Rhodes during the low season, you get a completely different picture of Lindos and you see what a fantastic village it actually is. Because it really is a nice village, exactly the kind you see on postcards. It is easy to get lost as the many narrow alleys make it feel like walking in a maze. As it is, there are signs showing the way out.

All alleys lead to the square. But which way to choose? |
One of the oases of Lindos is the Panagia Church.
You have to look for a long time before you find an alley without tourists and shops.
