Stegna beach and village in Rhodes |
South of the beach Tsambika, and east of the village of Archangelos, lies the nice little tourist resort of Stegna. There are no large hotel complexes here and it is not at all as touristy as in other tourist destinations. The first time I came here I had the feeling of being on one of the islands of the Cyclades. If I didn't know better I would have thought I was on Naxos.
Stegna is much quieter than most other tourist resorts in Rhodes.
Stegna is located approximately 30 kilometres south-east of Rhodes town and approximately 47 kilometres north-east of Lindos. You get here with your own vehicle or by bus from Mandraki harbour in Rhodes town. If you drive to Stegna, you must pay extra attention to the road signs, or use GPS. Namely, there is no "official" road sign, there is only a hand-drawn road sign that is difficult to see in the intense traffic along the road down to Lindos.

Along the way down to the village there is a viewpoint from which you can see the whole of Stegna. |
The long beach in Stegna.
There are not many tourists here, and tourism is quite low-key. After a week or so in one of Rhodes major tourist resorts, Stegna can even be experienced as picturesque. Several nice taverns and restaurants are located along the nice child-friendly beach, and if you want to stay a few nights, there are several hotels and pensions close to the beach.
Above the beach are many hotels, restaurants, cafes and shops.
The beach stretches through the entire bay and ends at a cute marina.

There are many nice boat trips to do from Stegna, including to Lindos beach and to nice Agathi beach, as well as to other lesser known beaches. You can also rent a boat and drive around on your own. No license is needed to rent a boat, but you must show that you can handle a boat.
