Messakti beach in Ikaria

Messakti beach begins almost where Gialiskari ends. The beach is one of the longest on Ikaria and one of the best, many think it is the island's best beach. The sand is fine-grained and golden. Perfect if you like sandy beaches. Sun beds and umbrellas are available for rent. Tavernas and canteens are also available. A projecting rock separates Livadi beach from Messakti beach. It is possible to walk between the beaches, via the road or over the rock.

The river Myrsonas has its outflow on the beach and forms small freshwater lagoons. It is not unusual to see freshwater turtles in the lagoons. The turtles are pretty domesticated, if you sit down they tend to come and beg for food.
