A calm day with a philosophical lunch on Naxos

This morning we woke up to the beautiful song of the robin outside our window. As beautiful and as lovely as waking up to the sound of the waves. Now we don't stay by the sea so we are so grateful for the cute little robin. Breakfast was enjoyed on the balcony wearing shorts and t-shirts. That it can be so warm so late in the year surprises us

Fruit and vegetable market in Naxos town.

I passed this deserted fruit and vegetable market when I went to the baker this morning.

After breakfast we rented a car for almost no money at all (12.50 €/day). There are few rental outlets and there are few tourists. We rented it without an end date because we don't know how long we will be staying on Naxos. We also said thank you and goodbye to our worn-out Teva sandals that have served us well for five months. We put some bougainvillea flowers on them so that they got a worthy ending.

After breakfast we threw away our beloved, but very worn, Teva sandals. Thanks for this time!

On Naxos you can refill your empty water bottles at water taps. Free and tasty.

Then we filled our water bottles at one of Naxos' many water fountains. Very good water!

Now that we have a car you might think that we would drive around the island. But no, not really. We are not quite ready for any longer excursions yet. Today we just drove to Agios Prokopios to have lunch at Fotis Taverna. We have to take advantage of it as long as it is open. (I think it closes any day considering how few tourists there are here.) We shared a Greek salad (of course) and a large plate of gigantes. Very tasty. When we finished eating, we sat for a long time and philosophized about life. A nice moment.

In the evening we went out again and drank an ouzo each before dinner. Then we went for a walk in the port and out to the outer pier, where the Express Skopelitis docks, but it was not there, she always spends the nights in Katapola on Amorgos. Out on the pier there were some people fishing for calamari with poor results. They had only caught one calamari. But in a few days the calamari will come in to play here in the harbour. We are looking forward to that. Guess where we had dinner tonight? You were right, we ate at Metaxi Mas!

The calamari fishermen in the harbour caught a single calamari.

Kastro in Naxos old town.

Kastro in Naxos Town is so beautiful in the evening. During the day too, for that matter.

We have vague plans for the coming days. Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow we are going horse riding (I wrote we, Camilla has persuaded me to come along), another day (not decided when) we are going with some friends and making yogurt at their farm. I am not looking forward to the former, but making your own yogurt will be exciting.
