Melinda beach in Lesvos

Melinda (or Melinta) is a tiny tourist resort with a long pebble beach. The village is beautiful from above, but gives a worn impression when you arrive. We had decided to stay a few nights in Melinda when we were on Lesvos for the first time, we had an image of a small cosy seaside resort, but it was far too decadent to suit us.

But the beach is cool in a way I can not put my finger on. At one end of the beach is a cliff that makes one think of a beach in Thailand. There are a couple of pensions and some tavernas backing the beach.

I believe there was an olive oil factory in the buildings once upon a time.

Melinda is located about 6 kilometres west of Plomari. The road follows the coast. Lesvos' longest beach - Vatera - is located about 30 kilometres west of Melinda, and about 40 kilometers southwest of Mytilini. If you come from that direction you drive to the end of Vatera beach where you turn left into the mountains. When you arrive at the tiny village of Kato Stavros, turn right.

After about 30 minutes bumping on a narrow dirt road, you finally reach an asphalt road. There you turn right, pass the villages of Akrasi and Paleochori, shortly after you will arrive at Melinda.

From the jetty in Melinda you can jump or dive into the crystal clear water and and snorkelling.

The Easter witch in the picture below hung one on a line on the road between Melinda and Plomari a few years ago. I know Judas dolls are burned, hanged or shot during Greek Easter, but what is this? It looks like a Swedish Easter witch on its way to the island of Blåkulla, but it can't be. The photo was taken in July, if that's any indication.

ACCOMMODATION IN MELINDA

As said, there are only a few accommodation options in Melinda. If you are looking for peace and quiet and a beachfront accommodation, you will surely like this little village. Of the pensions I have seen, Psaros Melinta seems to be the best. It is located right on the beach, and has a taverna with the same name. Rena's Rooms Melinta also looks nice.
