Vatousa in Lesvos |
Vatousa - between Molyvos and Sigri - is one of Lesvos' most exquisite villages and to pass by without entering the village is to be considered as a crime. The village is an architectural masterpiece with stunningly beautiful stone houses along narrow stone streets and small gardens. The village is said to have been built already in the 10th century, true or not, it is a very old village.
Here begins the village of Vatousa. The water tap in the background is from 1899.
You get the feeling of going back in time when you stroll around in the village. There's plenty to see, a good way to discover the village is to just stroll around and enjoy, but you should also visit Gogos Mansion, a museum housed in a neoclassical house from the 19th century. The church of Taxiarchis from 1832 is also worth seeing.

You will find tavernas, cafes, a gyro place, as well as bakeries and supermarkets in the village. A large taverna is located outside the village, at the parking lot. I guess it is for those who comes by tourist bus from Molyvos and Petra.
