There are a large number of beaches and swimming coves of diverse
quality all around Karpathos, everything from solitary coves with
white powdery sand to pebbly and gravel beaches with sunbeds.
You have to leave the tourist resorts to get to the really nice beaches
- by your own vehicle or by beach boat. North of Pigadia are four
gems in a row: Achata, Kato Lakos, Kyra Panagia and
Apella. Other nice beaches are the double beach of Diakofti near
the airport and Agios Nikolaos near the village of Arkasa. Do you like
to windsurf, head to Makris Gialos, which attracts novices and experienced
windsurfers.
