Goodbye Naxos! Hello Athens!

Our time on Naxos would not have been the same if it weren't for Pension Sofi. We therefore start with some of the nicest and most hospitable people we have ever met in Greece: Panos, Sofi, Rena and Thodoris at Pension Sofi. Thank you for being in our life and thank you for everything you have done for us. Thank you so much! We would also like to say a big thank you to Restaurant Metaxi Mas in Naxos old town! If we hadn't found this fabulous taverna, we don't know what we would have done. Thank you so much! And thank you so much to the fantastic Plaka beach where we have spent so much time!

Thodoris and Rena at Pension Sofi in Naxos town.

Many thanks Thodoris and Rena at Pension Sofi!

The sandy beaches of Maragas and Plaka on Naxos.

Finally, a big, big thank you to the wonderful Plaka beach!

Now another Plaka awaits, namely the Plaka district of Athens, where we have booked a room at Hotel Adonis. Wondering how it feels to come to the big city after desolate Naxos? Well, we will soon find out. I can't bear to write about this sad day, so I'll let the pictures and the short captions speak for themselves.

Breakfast at Pension Sofi on Naxos.

We had a sad last breakfast on our beloved balcony.

Hotel overlooking Kastro old town on Naxos.

We said goodbye to our wonderful breakfast view.

Tickets for the Blue Star Ferries ferry between Naxos and Piraeus in Athens.

We packed our last ferry tickets.

Transfer between the port of Naxos and hotels and pensions.

Thodoris drove us down to the port where we said a sad goodbye to him and Rena.

What's best for island hopping in Greece? Suitcase, backpack or just hand luggage?

One last check that everything was packed.

Queue for the Blue Star Ferries ferry at the port of Naxos.

There were not many people queuing to board the ferry.

Naxos Town is one of the finest villages in the Cyclades.

Goodbye beautiful Naxos Town.

The port of Naxos town.

Saying goodbye to Naxos was very emotional.

Leaving Naxos with tears in my eyes

It became even more emotional when the ramp raised to the famous notes.

Getting to Piraeus in Athens with Blue Star Ferries.

When we arrived in Piraeus, we felt happy again. The trip wasn't over yet.

Tunnelbanan till flygplatsen och Syntagma från Pireus.

We didn't take the metro to the airport, but to Syntagma.

From Syntagma we walked with the gigantic luggage to Hotel Adonis in Plaka.

A surprise awaited us at the hotel. Fresh snuff! Thanks Arne & Birgitta!

Then we toasted with white wine that the hotel gave us.

Pedestrian street in the Plaka district of Athens.

In the evening, we walked around Plaka. Fewer tourists, otherwise everything was as usual.

Celebrate Christmas in Athens, Greece.

What wasn't as usual, however, was seeing the Christmas decorations in Athens.

Hadrian's Library in Monastiraki in Athens.

The souvenir sales outside Hadrian's Library in Monastiraki were going on as usual.

Acropolis in Athens at night.

We were looking forward to seeing Athens' many sights during the off-season.
