Hike on Skiathos |
I can't imagine anyone going to Skiathos to hike. Of course I could be completely wrong, Skiathos might be a good hiking island. But it must be hard to compete with Skopelos and Alonissos where hiking is a big part of tourism.
Most people choose to walk along the beaches, like here at Koukounaries beach.
I suspect that almost everyone who goes here hikes along the beaches instead of in nature. As far as I know, there are no marked hiking trails, instead you have to rely on the paths that are on one of the hiking maps.
Strolling around Skiathos town is also a kind of hiking.
On a hike to the Monastery of Evangelistria. |
The northern parts of the island are most suitable for hiking. Perhaps the most pleasant hike starts in Skiathos Town and ends at Kastro in the north. On the way you pass, among other places, the monastery of Evangelistria.
The very interesting Evangelistria Monastery.
Where the path ends is the old capital of Skiathos, Kastro.
If you are going to hike on Skiathos, I can recommend the Anavasi's blue map (1:25,000), which describes several hikes on the island. Terrain maps (or Skai Maps) is another Greek cartographic company that specializes in hiking maps. They also have a map of Skiathos with the scale 1:15,000. Both maps are available for purchase on Skiathos.
Anavasi's hiking map of Skiathos also works if you drive a car or scooter. |
