Banana and Agia Eleni beach on Skiathos

It is easy to fall into some kind of superlative trap when describing the beaches on Skiathos. I could easily summarize the beaches with a single sentence: all the beaches are fantastic.

Banana beach is no exception. The bay where the beach is located can, with a little imagination, be likened to the shape of a banana, hence the name. A pretty cute beach name if you think about it.

Anyway, Banana beach is one of the island's absolutely finest beaches. The sand is just as lovely as on the island's other beaches, what makes Banana beach a better beach is that the water both looks and feels clearer and bluer. Nudism is common, mainly behind the cliff on the left side of the beach. A few years ago a luxury hotel opened at Banana beach. The hotel has completely changed the character of the beach.

Banana beach was a virgin beach once upon a time. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.

Little banana beach is located behind some cliffs at the far end of the big banana. To get there, you walk behind the cliff, which is as easy as can be. There awaits Skiathos' official nudist beach. If you don't like seeing people sunbathing and swimming naked, it's best to stay at Banana beach. For nudity, it's certainly at Little Banana. The beach is similar to Big Banana beach, but slightly shorter.

Little Banana beach is Skiathos' official nudist beach.

To get to the banana beaches, turn right at the parking lot in Koukounaries. Where the road ends, the road that leads down to Banana beach begins. Koukounaries has bus stop number 26.

There is nowhere in Greece that a banana tastes as good as Banana beach. :-)

North of the banana beaches is Agia Eleni beach, which is suitable for those who find the other beaches too crowded. Agia Eleni is also a nice beach, but it is not in the same class as the bananas. The sand is partly mixed with pebbles. You can walk to Agia Eleni from Little banana, but the easiest way is to walk from the road that starts from bus stop 25.
