Limeni in the south-western Peloponnese |
Limeni is a small coastal village between Kardamili and Areopoli in Mani in the south-western Peloponnese. When I first came here, my jaw dropped: it was so beautiful! I immediately decided that it is in Limeni that I will write my memoirs, whether it will happen is another matter.
Limeni is jaw-droppingly beautiful.
Here in Limeni I will write my memoirs.
Limeni is located about 5 kilometres north of the nice village of Areopoli, about 40 kilometres south of Kardamili and about 30 kilometres south of Stoupa. If you visit this part of the Peloponnese, you absolutely must not miss this gem. The village is tiny and there are no facilities such as shops or ATMs. But there are tavernas and hotels so you can stay overnight if you want. |
The water is like a natural swimming pool and is very snorkelling friendly.
There is no beach in Limeni, but that does not mean that there
is any problem to swim. The waters are seductively crystal clear and
incredibly turquoise. You can jump, dive or walk into the water from
the quays and swim ladders. Feel free to bring a mask and snorkel
if you like snorkelling. Although there is no beach, this natural
swimming pool is called Dexameni beach. The nearest sandy beach
is in Neo Itilo, just before Limeni.
Beautiful Limeni seen from the road to Areopoli.
ACCOMMODATION IN LIMENIThere are surprisingly many hotels in Limeni. Pretty much all the hotels are converted old grand houses and towers and they are quite luxurious, and the prices are accordingly. There are even hotels with swimming pools, of which Pirgos Mavromichali is a good example. I would be more than happy to stay there. |
