Antissa in Lesvos |
Antissa, or Andisa, is located on western Lesvos, about 16 kilometres north of Skala Eressou and 17 kilometres east of Sigri. If you are going to visit the petrified forest and are hungry, I recommend a stop in Antissa, because it is a perfect place to have lunch.
The square in Antissa with many reataurants and cafes.
In the centre of the village there is a large square with three grand plane trees that provides shade to the many tavernas and cafes that are located in the square. Antissa is relatively unaffected by tourism. It is a great pleasure to study the Greek everyday life in the square while eating lunch under one of the plane trees. I think I have never seen so many tavernas in such a small space. Feel free to have lunch here if you are in Sigri or Skala Eressos.
Choosing a taverna is not easy because there are so many to choose from. |
To choose a taverna is not easy, several of them have barkers who wave frenetic as soon as you enter the square. We ate at Taverna To Kati Allo when we were here, and we were more than happy, mainly because they had no barker.
