Lighthouse at Cape Gourounion |
The only reason I mention this lighthouse is to prevent you from going there. For it is not worth the long strenuous journey. The name of the lighthouse is Cape Gourouni Faros and it is located about 27 kilometres from Skopelos Town, and about 9 kilometres from Glossa. The last 3 kilometres are on the map marked as a scenic road, and so it is, but it's barely passable, even by motorcycle.

The lighthouse - which is stately, white, beautiful and closed - stands at Cape Gourouni as far northeast as you can get on Skopelos. Gourouni means pig in Greek, the name comes from that the place is said to look like a pig snout from distance. It must be from very far away because we saw neither snout nor curl, whether from land, sea or air (we flew over the "snout" on the way home to Sweden).

One reason to go here after all is that there are two beaches
just before the lighthouse. The beaches are named Chondrogiorgi
(also called Hodrogiorgis) and Perivolou and is visited by very
few tourists. Perivolou beach is one of Skopelos' least known beaches.
The beach is about 5 kilometres from Glossa and about 30 kilometres from
Skopelos town. If you like snorkelling, you will like Perivolou beach.
The nearest taverna is in Glossa.
