Porto Zoro beach on Zakynthos

The Vassilikos Peninsula is home to some of Zakynthos's best beaches. They are strung like a long golden necklace along the peninsula's northeastern coast. The lovely Kaminia beach is situated between Argassi and Porto Zoro.

Porto Zoro lies at the start of the string of beaches and is one of the most distinctive spots on the Vassilikos Peninsula. What makes the beach particularly worth visiting is the large, imaginatively shaped rock formations rising from the shallow water; these rocks are also what make Porto Zoro one of the most photographed beaches on Zakynthos.

The beach consists largely of sand, but there are also stretches of gravel and pebbles, especially along the water's edge. The water is usually clear, and the areas around the rocks offer excellent snorkeling, so be sure to bring a mask and snorkel.

Porto Zoro is effectively divided into different sections by large rock formations. In my opinion, the area where the rocks extend into the water is the most beautiful and interesting part of the beach. The beach features a restaurant and a beach bar, as well as sun loungers and parasols. Parking is also available nearby.

There is excellent water for snorkeling here, so bring a snorkel and mask.

A minor curiosity is the greenish, mineral-rich clay found at one end of the beach. Bathers often coat themselves in this clay before rinsing off in the sea. I haven’t seen it myself, but I’ve read that the clay is beneficial for one's health. Visitors typically scrape the clay from the rocks, mix it with a little seawater to form a paste, and apply it to their bodies and faces. Once the clay has dried in the sun, it is easily rinsed off in the sea. It is said to boost blood circulation and leave the skin soft and smooth.
