Elounda in eastern Crete
Elounda is a relatively large tourist resort beautifully situated in a lagoon-like bay about 10 kilometres north of Agios Nikolaos. For a few years there have been charters to Elounda from many countries.

I think the best thing about Elounda is the lively harbour promenade with long rows of tavernas. That there are so many is due to the fact that Elounda is invaded daily by bus loads of tourists going by boat to the leprosy island of Spinalonga.

In and around Elounda there are many AI hotels and luxury hotels, some with paid beaches. Of course, there are also regular beaches, partly in Elounda itself, partly along the fine stretch of coast that goes to Plaka further north.
