Megalos & Mikros Aselinos beach in Skiathos

Just like the beaches of Mandraki, Ghournes and Agistro, the beach of Megalos Aselinos is located on the northern coast of Skiathos. If it weren't for the lack of changing rooms and stands, you could think that Megalos Aselinos was Skiathos Unite's home stadium for football.

It's a gigantic beach, it's not only long, it's as wide as an eight-lane highway too. I personally don't like beaches this big, it becomes impersonal in a way. But there's nothing wrong with the beach itself, it's of a high standard. Many of the excursion boats that go around the island stop here, often at lunchtime. Hence the huge tavernas that seem to swallow as many guests as they want.

Mikros (little) Aselinos is much nicer than its big sister Megalos (big) Aselinos. As the name suggests, the beach is small, maybe only 50 metres. What the name doesn't say, however, is that it's really nice.

Mikros Aselinos is perfect for those who like small beaches without sunbeds. The tiny taverna is housed in something that resembles a hut. You get to Mikros Aselinos via a wide gravel road that starts at the monastery of Panagia Kounistra. The path down to the beach is very steep.
