Although there is a ten-year difference between the pictures, Koukounaries are similar.

There are those who count Koukounaries as number one in Greece. Not bad. Is it true? I doubt it, I think there are better beaches. But sure, it's a fantastically nice sandy beach, I can absolutely agree with that.

Koukounaries is Greece's best beach and one of the best beaches in the Greek archipelago.

The beach runs along a U-shaped beautiful bay lined with evergreen trees. The powdery sand shifts between golden yellow and white, the water is shallow and playfully child-friendly, the sandy bottom is incredibly pleasant to walk on, it almost feels like walking on water.

Like many other beaches on Skiathos, Koukounaries is also very child-friendly.

The beach line is one long row of sunbeds and umbrellas, in high season there are so many people here that you need a metal detector to find a place for yourself. Unfortunately, there are no real tavernas here, but plenty of fast food-like places with ketchup and mustard on the tables.

Rent sunbeds and parasols at the restaurants at Koukounaries beach.

During high season, it is crowded between the sunbeds on the beach.

There are plenty of water sports toys to have fun with in Koukounaries beach.

Koukounaries gets its name from the special type of pine tree that grows around the adjacent lake Strofilia. The trees are considered so unique that they got their own little "national park" behind the beach. The trees are unusually tall and look like umbrellas. If you like birds, bring binoculars because there are a lot of birds in the lake. From Koukounaries it is walking distance to Banana, Little Banana and Agia Eleni beaches.

The Koukounaries pine tree has given the beach its name. They grow by the small lake called Strofilia.

You can get to Koukounaries by moped, car, bus or taxi. Koukounaries bus stop has number 26 and is the last stop on the bus journey from Skiathos town. Keep in mind that there can be a lot of people on the bus during high season, it can even be difficult to get a seat when it's time to go home.
